We're Buying a House!

For those of you who don't know, we are PCSing (Permanent Change of Station) to Fort Campbell, Kentucky at the end of the month. When I found out the housing wait time for us on post was 2-4 months. I started looking for a place to buy in Clarksville, Tennessee (Fort Campbell is located on the border of Kentucky and Tennessee). After over a month of looking I didn't think we were going to find a house we really liked. Then we found the one we are going to buy. I missed it during my numerous MLS searches because it was less that any other house I was interested in. The sellers dropped the price 6,500 dollars to sell it quickly (since they were about to move- They are military, too). We have an awesome real estate agent who went to so many homes for us and took tons of pictures. The biggest thing that attracted us to this place first were all of the trees. We love the trees. Here is our house from the front.

It is a 1700 sq ft, 4 bedroom ranch home. It has a huge fenced in backyard with lots of trees.

It has a fireplace in the living room and to the left is the dining room. Continuing through the dining room you enter the kitchen.

As you can probably tell, the dining room has carpet. We are going to take out the carpet in the dining room, living room, and hall and put in laminate floors. We were going to put in wood floors but then discovered that laminate floors look like real wood but are much more durable (we got samples and tested the durability ourselves). Now to the kitchen. I don't really like it. It is too small. It has very little cupboard space. It is smaller than my current one and I don't have enough room for all of my stuff. This almost made me not consider buying the home, but I love everything else so I tried thinking of how I could make it bigger. I am going to extend the kitchen towards the window by the back door (one of two back doors to our deck) and create a breakfast bar at the end. Then there will be enough room for an island. The sellers recently put new tile in the kitchen and had some left over in the garage, so it will be easy to fix the gap in the floor that will be left.

The first picture is of the living room from the dining room. To the right of the living room is the hall to the 4 bedrooms and main bath. The master bath is huge and has a nice master bath. My favorite part of it is the Garden tub. The mint green paint in the bedroom is very ugly, I think, but we are going to be painting most of the house anyway. I am excited to pick out colors.

We are very excited. I am very happy that I know where we will be living and don't have to stress about where we were going to live. Now I can enjoy my last 2 1/2 weeks here. I am packing (we are moving ourselves-using PODS) but I started several weeks ago and am doing a little very day, which makes it much easier and less overwhelming. The PODS will arrive next Monday and I will have a week and a half to pack them before I am having them picked up. Then the company will drive them to Nashville and deliver them to our new house.

Oh my gosh!!! The house is beautiful!
I served part of my mission there at Ft. Campbell. I hope to get there some day. I LOVE Tennessee! And there is sooo soooo much for you to do there. Everything is within about a 2 hour drive. You definitely have to go to Mammoth Caves and the Corvette museum. Oh, I am so excited for you!

Same here, pretty small kitchen, and carpet in the dining room. We actually use our eat-in as our dining room and the dining room as another living area. We're doing laminate flooring too, but it won't be until Strati gets home. Good luck with your move

Your house looks great! I think Tina said it is in 2nd ward so we won't be in the same ward but I'm sure we'll all run into each other here and there. I'm curious about these Pods--you'll have to blog about how that goes for you guys. Have a safe trip!
